There's an impromptu block party here on Hawthorne, in front of the Bagdad Theatre. A couple hundred people playing drums and cowbells, screaming and cheering, dancing and cartwheeling across the crosswalk each time the light changes. Waving sparklers and setting off fireworks.

The same thing is happening in my head.

Congratu-fucking-lations! Halle-fucking-lujah! Cele-fucking-bration! Kum bay-fucking-yah!

Good job. High fives all around.

I'm glad it went down this way. I wasn't looking forward to us all having to commit seppuku to regain our soiled honor.

Why you should all go vote.

If the eight years of the Bush Mistake have done one positive thing, they've taught me some important lessons about American politics and the importance of voting.

1. Two people, even two people with identical policies, will make completely different politicians.

2. Things may not seem to change when the right guy is in office. That's good. Because when the wrong guy is in office, things get a hell of a lot worse.

3. It's not just the President and Vice-President you're voting for. You're voting for a staff of Cabinet officials they haven't appointed yet. And in the wrong hands, the Cabinet can turn into Super-Villain Team-Up.

4. If you don't vote for the people you agree with the most, than you're voting for the people you agree with the least.

5. It's better to be the one person in your state who votes against the majority than to just stay home because your state's a foregone conclusion. Better for your soul.

So, with that said: Why are you still sitting there? Go vote.

I'm in a bit of a slump right now.

This has just sort of dawned on me.

Part of it's my financial/job situation; part of it's the frustrating ratio of progress to not-progress on comics projects (I realized tonight I've written *one* comics script in 2008); part of it's that we've had at least one houseguest for most of the last two and a half weeks, and it's totally distorted the dynamic of living in this house.

Part of it's the weather.

Part of it's the dismal state of my lovelife in 2008, which is rapidly drawing to a close.

Anyway. Generalized miasma sort of thing. And I'm having trouble pushing myself out of it.

So, this is me right now.

Playing the typewriter

I am in a coffeeshop, and this band just started, and the drummer is playing a typewriter for percussion.

This is the second time in a week I've seen someone play the typewriter at a show. It's also the second time EVER that I've seen someone play the typewriter.

How odd.
